Blackpool Proud of Public Toilets

Winning a number of prizes at the Loo of the Year Awards was a cause for pride and celebration for Danfo client Blackpool Council.

Local politicians are proud of the standard of their public toilets and admit that it is very important for a tourist destination to have good facilities.

As MPs are calling for action on public toilets, Blackpool is already celebrating the success of their efforts.

Cross-Party Consensus on the Need for More Public Toilets

The Communities and Local Government Select Committee has called for action to halt the steady decline in the number of public toilets.

This is in response to recognition that adequate provision of accessible public toilets is important for social equality. A lack of public toilets is especially serious for already vulnerable people.

New Public Toilets in Fylde get Attention

Danfo client Fylde Borough Council have announced that new public toilets will be provided at central locations.

The measure is in response to complaints from the public following the closure of an old public toilet installation in 2008.

Danfo has been chosen as providing the most cost effective solution for tax payers.

“We became aware of the Changing Places campaign on a visit to the 2005 World Toilet Summit in Belfast, where we learnt about the difficulties people with severe disabilities face every day when trying to use public toilets.  We realised that with Blackpool hosting so many millions of visitors every year, we needed to provide a Changing Place.  At that time we had only recently finished our public toilet refurbishment programme, so it took another couple of years before we were able to find a location and the funding for a Changing Place toilet.  We worked with Danfo to design and build the facility, which is located next to the Solaris centre on South Promenade, near the Pleasure Beach.  We were extremely pleased to achieve a five-star award from the British Toilet Association for this Changing Place and we will continue to look for ways of providing more of these facilities across the town “.

Loo of the Year Awards for the UK’s Best Public Toilets

The Loo of the Year Awards is a prestigious annual event hosted by the British Toilet Association. Danfo UK are proud to have been awarded a number of prizes in 2009:

National Winners, Public Toilet Entries

Blackpool Council were the national winners for England for the 2009 Public Toilet Entries. This prize is awarded to the overall best entry from the public toilets entered in any category of the competition.

As Danfo UK manages all of Blackpool’s public toilets, we are delighted to have received this recognition together with our client.

Champions League Standards of Excellence

Wyre Borough Council, whose public toilets are fully managed by Danfo, and Danfo UK ourselves both received the Champions League Standards of Excellence award.

This title recognises consistently high standards of public toilets. It can be awarded to any organisation or Local Authority with ten or more public toilets entered in the competition, with five or more of these being awarded 5 stars (the highest mark available for a public toilet).

In order to be recognised as a member of the Champions League Standards of Excellence, the winner must also satisfy the British Toilet Association’s inspectors that they are maintaining a consistently high standard in all their entries throughout the year.

The Gala

The awards were presented with pomp and circumstance at a gala dinner at the National Motor Museum on December 4, hosted by the British Toilet Association.

This enjoyable celebration of public toilets was all the more special because both Danfo UK and our clients were rewarded for all our efforts in providing and maintaining first class public toilets.

Annual Client Survey Results

At Danfo, our clients are our priority and we always aim to improve our services.

For this reason, we have asked independent assessors QMS to do an annual Benchmarq survey of our clients. With the results of this in mind, we can always make sure that we bring you better public toilets and services.

This year we have been able to improve our results  and we are now proud to announce that Danfo (UK) Ltd have been awarded a “ Diamond” Rating for 2010.
