Stanway Street: new public toilet in a listed area
Location: Stanway Street, Hackney
Client: London Borough of Hackney
Opened: September 2006
The client took a decision to replace a total of 6 public toilets within the borough with new, much needed facilities.
The objective of the project was to provide safe, clean public conveniences. To this end, the client elected to hand the maintenance responsibility over to a specialist provider.
Because the area around site for this particular facility contains a lot of older architecture, finding a complemetary design was vital. Danfo’s architectural flexibility was a great help here; the resulting building is a Tetragon finished with glazed green bricks, according to specifications from the city planner in charge of the project.
This public toilet provides 1 fully accessible facility, 3 unisex toilet rooms and 1 urinal.
